Wacko for Waco!
A good stop for lunch between Dallas and Austin? 80s cult? Home to Baylor University?
Not sure your expectation of the city of Waco, Texas but we made a 3 day stop to catch up with an old Taylor University friend (thanks Aimee and Troy!) and explored what Waco had to offer. Waco Mammoth National Monument was on the map and didn’t disappoint. This Mammoth graveyard not only had multiple full skeletons discovered but also multiple other species. Also never realized the Colombian Mammoth was HUGE, eclipsing the woolly Mammoth by about 30%.
Baylor University is home to the Mayborne Museum, another great stop and houses some of the Mammoth found at the local dig site. Added another Chuy’s Tex Mex stop and we continue our effort to keep the tradition alive!
Also hit the Dr Pepper Museum for an old fashion soda fountain stop and thoroughly enjoyed a stop across the tracks at Magnolias Market and Silos at Magnolias, Chip and Joanna Gaines from HGTV’s Fixer Upper and now their own network. Had basic expectations about Magnoloa’s but honestly blown away at the city block of shops, food, family fun space and local flavor. Chip and Joanna really did it right and it’s worth a trip just for this space.
Had our first TX BBQ at Terry Black’s and savored the smoky goodness and end to a great day.
Thank you Waco… San Antonio here we come!
