A Living THanksgiving
Have you ever been convicted that you/we should live more thankfully? Instead of looking at the list of repairs or the issues of the hour/day/week as the defining elements of our lives, we should live through the thankful parts of each of those stories. Corrie ten Boom wrote about her sister’s comment “Thank God for the fleas” in her book THE HIDDING PLACE. As quick context, this was about their time in a Nazi concentration camp and the comment reference the massive flea infestation that was so bad the guards would stay away from the barracks which provided some space for the prisoners to worship and do things that would otherwise not happen without the fleas. So if under those circumstances the ten Boom sisters could find thanksgiving, why do I struggle?
It definitely comes from a place of sin in the heart. A yearning for more or a self pity for what I have. This can germinate from jealousy, anger, simple comparison or even window shopping but its the same sin carried down form the garden of Eden… we could have it all but we would still want the one thing we weren’t supposed to have. I guess that is what free will is? The ability to desire and choose a single thing over a bounty of other things that might be right within our grasp or under our own feet.
This Thanksgiving the DillerTime Bus was parked in Fort Pierce Florida. We got there by default as this was the closest RV park to LaMesa RV where we had all the work done on our motorhome. The project listed in the last blog was long with some items of significance and other of minor scale but all desired to be remedied. The repairs took over a week and while my frustration grew with each mention of how many items were on our list I eventually pressured for a prioritize resolution and a return of our home by Thanksgiving. The new service specialist we were working with was kind and understood the struggle of living in a hotel for a week and made sure we had the prioritize fixes done and our home was returned in good working order by 4pm the day before Thanksgiving.
I can be upset at the time, the cost, the incomplete items or the other issues we ran into due to the late hour return our home was causing…. NO
After a hastened RV parking and hook-up, a blitz through a fairly depleted grocery store and review of the state of the home after sitting empty for over a week we got to bed and as my head hit the pillow… WE ARE HOME.
The Thanksgiving diner then became a celebration of our adventure, the provision of last minute everything and a gracious God who continues to remind us that our experience is tastier when we are thankful and our hearts are more full when we are together. Thankful for our grand adventure and every piece of the experience, education and road yet to come!
