Ever sell all your furniture… online… and finish during a Tropical Storm Watch followed by a hurricane?
So my answer to this is likely obvious but the funny comes in knowing that this is the second move during a tropical event. Yeah it’s evidently how we roll. While we didn’t plan to be moving again just 2 years later, we leave the way we came in… under a tropical event.
That makes things interesting of course, like timing the loading of the truck between rain bands and of course returning the trailer you got thinking it would fit everything but admitting to your wife the morning of the storm that it wouldn’t… yes Michele was right 😏
While we are moving from our largest home into our smallest (a yet to be purchased RV of unknown configuration) the purge of “stuff” has been both cathartic and a genuine challenge. Don’t throw out the kids’ elementary craft projects or pack and find storage for them? How about you high school year books or the photo albums from times when a click and flash resulted in hours of development and organizing instead of posting to the cloud. Do we toss all that work or just snap pics of it and call it progress?
I’m leaving out some of the deeper pauses when we think about mementos that link to powerful moments or people in our lives, some who aren’t with us any more. Somber but also cathartic recognizing that the paths we have traveled to get to a point we are able to take this “big trip” has been built in some of these relationships and places and keeping some of those reminders is worth it. A testimony of God’s provision and love woven throughout our lives is found in both the letting go and the keeping of past memories we want to share more in the future.
So as we shovel our last bags of trash and stuff toward the door, trying to keep those separated, we are starting to see the starting line to this next phase of life. Lord give us the energy to finish and the faith to tackle the RV shopping!
