Arizona: Grand Canyon and out through the Painted Desert
Arizona is proving to be an amazing state for adventure with a view. While the Grand Canyon is likely the most famous of our stop it didn’t disappoint! We explored the South Rim Visitor Center and Michele and Peyton hiked the South Kaibab Trail into the canyon for about few miles to get a better view, ice and all. Even the campground was fun with a a great night of chilly, coach-side grilling and few Elk stopping by for a visit in the morning. Add in an epic sunset on Feb 28 leading to a fun spot to view the planetary alignment and we can definitely affirm the grandness of the canyon’s rep. Driving out the Canyon continues to impress, even from the RV window view. The scale of this place is so immense it reminds one of our Creator’s power.
The Painted Desert is something straight out of an old western. As we left the Grand Canyon we bounced our way across the Painted Desert and a large portion of Navajo Land headed to Page, AZ. While the drive couldn’t have been more scenic it bounced the RV around on single lane highways and challenged us with our biggest climbs and down hills yet. The pictures just don’t do the landscape justice but sharing a few from the road. The reservation was scattered with booths, most empty during this low tourist season but some still offered some added color to the landscape. It’s such stark beauty and leaves me wondering how the Earth can contain so many of these colors of rock and dirt. Also saw my first “no uranium mining” signage of my life, something unique to this part of the desert.
Next we will dedicate an entire blog to the highest picture per hour portion of our trip yet, Page, AZ.
